TCS New York City Marathon Long Training Run #2

 

Gearing up to run the TCS New York City Marathon or another fall marathon? Get in some long-distance practice with these runs, featuring built-in fuel, pace-setters, and training partners.

In the start corrals, participants will divide themselves into wave starts based on pace. There will be signs in the corrals starting at 7:00-per-mile and going up each 30 seconds—please stage yourself accordingly.

If you choose to run with a pace group, members of the NYRR Pace Team—you’ll recognize their blue and white striped tanks—will carry signs that correspond with marathon paces and finish times. Check back closer to event day for a list of paces that will have NYRR Pace Team members.

All pacers will cover 20 miles, but individuals may shorten their distance to suit their training needs. Runners may switch between pace groups as they wish.

Runners faster than 7:00 per mile may begin before the 7:00 group; however, no pace leader will be provided. Water, PowerGel, and Gatorade Endurance Formula will be available on the 102nd Street Cross Drive throughout the run.

This is an unscored, untimed, noncompetitive run and does not count toward qualifying for guaranteed entry to the TCS New York City Marathon.

Course Info

The course consists of three loops of varying distances—one six-mile loop, followed by two five-mile loops and one four-mile loop.

Loop 1: Start on East Drive near the 102nd Street Cross Drive and head north for a six-mile circuit. The first mile includes the challenging Harlem Hills.

Loop 2 and 3: Run west on the 102nd Street Cross Drive (along which you'll find fluids, fuel, and toilets); turn left onto West Drive and complete a five-mile circuit, ending back on East Drive at the 102nd Street Cross Drive.

Loop 4: Cross the 102nd Street Cross Drive a final time and head down West Drive again. Turn left at the 72nd Street Transverse and left again onto East Drive. Run up Cat Hill for the third time and turn left to finish on the 102nd Street Cross Drive.

The official course will close at 10:00 a.m.

Number Pickup & Registration

Numbers (which include your timing tag) may be picked up at the NYRR RUNCENTER at 320 West 57th Street (between Eighth and Ninth avenues) on the following dates:

  • Sunday, August 6, 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.
  • Monday, August 7, 7:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, August 8, 7:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday, August 9, 7:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, August 10, 7:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m.
  • Friday, August 11, 7:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, August 12, 8:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m.

Show the QR code from your confirmation email or your My NYRR account to pick up your materials. Please pick up during the week to avoid crowds on event day. Event-day lines may impact your ability to get to the start on time. There is no souvenir for this event.

On event day, pickup will be from 5:30 to 6:30 a.m. at Race-Day Central in Central Park near the start. 

If you're unable to pick up your materials, a friend or family member can pick up for you; the person will need your QR code (printed or digitally). This policy is in effect only for our weekly races and events, not for the TCS New York City Marathon.

Bag check, located on the 102nd Street entrance ramp, will be open from 6:00 to 10:30 a.m.
